Open Mic

We are looking for a Chair for Open Mic Night. If you are interested, email us!

This event is completely parent-run and we need your help with practices and on the day of the event.

Mitchell Open Mic is Mitchell’s oral interpretation event, which is an enrichment activity where students learn and refine public speaking skills. Participants are coached and encouraged to become confident, dynamic, and effective public speakers. Encourage your child to participate in Mitchell Open Mic and help them grow into confident public speakers!

Here is how it works: Students choose a poem or other written piece (book excerpt, song lyrics, etc.) to memorize and perform. Creativity is encouraged, you can even write your own! Then participants will practice with volunteer public speaking coaches during lunch recess on Tuesdays starting in January and/or after school on Thursdays from 3:00p‑3:30p starting <TBD>. Practices will continue for three weeks. The event concludes with performances for peers and judges on the morning of <TBD>, during school hours, and again for parents, family and friends at 6:00p on the evening of <TBD>. This is a non-competitive event; professional judges give feedback but do not select a “winner”.

Students: Start planning your performance piece now! Performance pieces should be 30 seconds – 3 minutes.
